Hi All,
I have come across a wonderful(and mostly accessible) Web space provider. With their standard plan--which is totally free--you get, 1.5GB space; 100GB bandwidth per month; PHP; MySQL; CPanel control panel; web site builder; five email accounts; five subdomains; FTP access and fantastico scripts. All of the above is with no ads added to your site; which truly makes it completely free! If you need more they also offer upgrades at decent prices. I think for an unlimited account(which I plan on eventually upgrading to) it costs less than $5.00 per month, and that includes your own domain. I absolutely love it! There is one small draw back(and if anyone knows of a work around I would appreciate knowing about it), and that is for sign up and logging in to CPanel there is a captia. This disappears if you upgrade...I have already written them about it. However, with every thing provided I think the captia is a small annoyance...I got sighted assistance at sign up, and I have made a list of things I need to do with CPanel, and I will do all of those at once...That is a total of worrying about the captia twice(well thrice in my case since I did not realize there was a captia at sign in, and I was not prepared...). Also, you have to log in to get technical assistance, and I do not know about the Web site builder since I do not use those tools...I will be using FTP to upload my pages. But, if you are interested, here is the link. Let me know what you think...I am not on here much, but I am every now and then... :)
Totally Free Web Space Here
For those who care, I got dreamhost for web hosting (it sounded like an awesome deal at the time), and though they give you unlimited or tb of space you'll never use, there are lots of strings attached. Also: I've seen many a site go down on shared hosting because some script kiddy was playing with SQL and ran a script, etc. Essentially what these guys do is cram as many people as possible on to one box and let you all run free, whihch means that if someone gets attacked, someone compiles something like a kernel, whatever may be the case, you lose cpu power which could really lag your site down.
Ok, this sounds pretty good. What I want to know is, how would I upload a .html structure so that it all goes into my website? This sounds great!
What I usually do for people is recommend Linode: $20/m gets you a cheap linode, it's nice, it's vps so you get your own resources. You can run whatever you want. 512 mb ram (that sounds like not so much, but one of my 512s is using 100 mb and running email, web, etc). I charge between $20 and $75 to configure everything, depending on what you want. This includes e-mail, firewalls, web server, blogs, anything that tickles your fancy. I also help new members get going with tools and utilities and the like. For anyone interested, my details are as follows:
msn: tyler@tysdomain.com (also functions as email)
skype: st8amnd127
In answer to the uploading of the structure, you can just use WINSCP or ftp to upload it all, then test and change what you need to.
It is not Dream Host that I was recommending. And they have an awsome guarantee for up time...No, I have not fully tried them out, but what is the worst that can happen? You give it a try, do not like it and cancel? I can tell you that they have pretty damn good tech support...I have had to use it once, and I got a reply in less than 24 hours(which is what they guarantee for free accounts). I also like their CPanel, I have had no problems setting up email accounts(they do pop support, and they tell you where to go to find out exactly how to set it up...). They also give you precise instruction on uploading html files...Including user name, web address, password(the pwd you chose), port, directory, recommend programs to use, etc. I may not have been able to completely check it out, but what I have checked out I like, and I have mentioned the one thing I do not like... :) Oh, one more thing, it is not a (oh we say it is free, but we get credit card info and charge you anyway), they do not ask for any payment info...Just name, email, requested web address, , etc. Any direct questions, just ask. :) If I have not answered all/any of the questions posted here...Just ask me, and I will do my best to answer it...
